I heard this over and over during the 65th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida.
While the spectacular weather certainly played a role in everyone’s weekend, all the work that our outstanding Sebring Raceway staff accomplished these past several months certainly made positive impacts on the guest experience as well.
People offered great praise for the Made-over Midway, the all-new Club Patron, Club 12, souvenir shopping and manufacturer displays.
IMSA’s incredible line-up of manufacturers produced spectacular racing all over the 3.74-mile circuit, many times with the Corvettes, Fords and Porsches bouncing off one another in the GTLM class, while the Taylors renewed their carry-over-from-the-Rolex 24 rivalry with the Mustang Sampling team for the overall victory.
There were plenty of fireworks during the weekend, both literally and figuratively!
Because the weekend ran a bit more smoothly this year than last, I managed to see more parts of the property than I did a year ago, visit with more of you during the weekend, and get an up-close view of how many of you like to experience this historic, iconic event.
My personal highlight came early in the week, Wednesday in fact, when I rode atop the famed La Bomba for a full lap around the circuit, giving me the opportunity to step out of the office and experience the true joy of Sebring in ways I never did when I was younger. The Sebring “tribes” certainly know how to maximize the guest experience.
And speaking of “historic, iconic,” especially our “Historic, Iconic” blue and tangerine T-shirts, many of you responded to our revamped souvenir line as we hoped you would, resulting in sellouts of many items before the end of Saturday’s race. We will bring more next year, and I promise we will offer designs and styles you requested at the all-new souvenir stores. And we will also add online ordering for those who can’t attend.
Hopefully, many of you stopped into the FLZ Party Zone, took advantage of the entertainment, dining, imbibing and social offerings, including the Saint Patrick’s Day Party, complete with Celtic music and green and gold pyrotechnics.
Already we are looking at 2018 and what we can do to improve the fan experience. Many of you may have noticed that one of the restrooms in Green Park did not get the new blue paint treatment. That particular location will be replaced with a new restroom and shower facility before you return next year.
We likely will have more surprises in store, because each running of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida produces new ideas, new energy from the staff, and greater input from the end-users, you, our guests, who give us great ideas to inject into this great venue.
Within the next 10 days, our staff will gather to go over our own ideas and notes, as well as the ones you submit to me, as we plan our next moves to make this event better for you.
As I said a year ago, we may not be able to initiate every idea, and some may require a little longer to put in place, but I can promise you that every idea will be given due consideration. Write to me at . I pledge to read every single email that comes to my desk, and I assure you that I am very open minded to new ideas.
I am so blessed to be in the position of leading your wonderful hosts so that you can enjoy this event year after year. All of us love Sebring International Raceway. And we love this very special event. Our mission is to serve you while you are here, so that you continue to love this track and this event as much as we do.
Thank you all!
