Craft Beer and Music Festival October 13
Three Great Bands and More than 30 Great Beers
Sebring International Raceway is known for great parties, and Brew Jam Grand Prix on Oct. 13 will add to its legacy. The beer and music festival will run from 3 to 9 p.m. and feature a full afternoon and evening of great beer, music and food.
More than 30 beers from breweries including Salt Water Brewing, Yuengling and Sam Adams will keep guests hydrated as the Hatley Band, Ari and The Alibis and Kettle of Fish perform on stage starting at 3:30 p.m. A portion of proceeds from the event will benefit the Veteran Services Office (VSO) of Highlands County. The VSO serves the Veteran, and his or her family, by providing services and assisting in the application for additional benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Gates open at 3 p.m. with a $5 cover charge that includes a full day of entertainment and music. Hours of unlimited beer sampling is just $20 more. Parking is free, and the adjacent Chateau Elan Hotel is available for guests who will not have a designated driver. Plenty of food and other drinks will be offered for purchase, therefore, outside food and beverage will not be permitted. Live music will play until at least 9 p.m., and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
Event t-shirts will be on sale and will feature the Brew Jam alligator jamming on his guitar.
Kettle of Fish – 7:30 p.m.
Kettle of Fish music features blues, soul and funk with the energy of rock ‘n roll. They make old songs new again, and their originals sound like classics. Kettle is one of the hottest live acts in Southwest Florida, headlining to thousands, and opening for such acts as Eddie Money, Marshall Tucker Band, Elvin Bishop, Dickey Betts and many more playing mostly originals and deep-track covers.
Kettle has been led by singer and principal songwriter Dana Lawrence since its inception in 2001. Current members include Greg Poulos on guitar (formerly with the Freddie King Band, the Venturas, Rock Bottom), Chris Guertin on bass (Big Kahuna Band), Rick Andre on drums (has toured with the Platters, Ben E King, Chuck Berry) and Robin Swenson on keys (Four Seasons, Aretha Franklin). Other honorary members include Thorson Moore, the rising star Kevin Miller on guitar, Garrett Dawson on drums/percussion, Andy Wallace or Matthew Frost on keys, Jimmie Fadden (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) on drums and harmonicas.
Ari and the Alibis – 5 p.m.
Infusing funk, jazz and samba with blues soul and rock, Ari and the Alibis have created a memorable ear-catching sound. Formed in September of 2013, Ari and the Alibis quickly became one of the top acts in their native Tampa Bay music scene, as evidenced by their 2015/16 nomination for best local band in Tampa Bay and Ari for best jazz vocalist. They also received Grammy nods in two categories: Best Rock Song (Dirty Little Secret) and Best Rock Performance (Dirty Little Secret and Bon Appetit). Their highly anticipated release "Home" dropped June 15, 2018 – an all-original 15-track 76-minute-long album that captures the versatility as well as the virtuosity of the group.
The title track "Home" received an award for "best original song by a local group" in the Bradenton Times "Best of the Bay" and was nominated for best regional band in Tampa Bay's Creative Loafing readers’ poll of the same name.
The group includes five talented members: Arielleh “Ari” McManus (pronounced R.E.) on vocals, Nicolaas Kraster on guitar, James Dabone on trombone, Omar Rodriguez on bass and Damon Owens on drums. Particularly notable are Ari's powerhouse voice, filled with emotion and strength that grips the listener from the very first note, as can be experienced on their album “Dirty Little Secret.”
Hatley – 3:30pm
Dancing, crowd involvement and fun entertainment? Hatley’s set list includes covers from artists that include Johnny Cash, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kenny Chesney, Elvis, Toby Keith, Jimmy Buffet, Zac Brown, Del Shannons, Box Tops, Marshall Tucker Band and many more. With a booming baritone, a great supporting cast, fabulous original material, and an exciting, high-energy repertoire of covers, Hatley is sure to please any audience.
The Hatley Band can best be described as a band infused with a touch of country and southern rock. Hatley completed his album in Nashville under the tutelage of Grammy Award winning Producer Mark Lambert. Lambert has produced and engineered for top artists that include Willie Nelson, Elton John, Ronnie Milsap and Randy Houser. Hatley features lead guitar, acoustic guitar, bass and drums.
