FINAL ALMS SEBRING WILL BE A CLASSIC!
On March 16th Sebring will host its final American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón race. The 61st Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida will mark the 15th and final ALMS race at America's premier endurance racing venue. Beginning in 2014, Sebring will join the new series created by the merger of the ALMS and GRAND-AM.
A spectacular entry is expected for this final ALMS Sebring, including LMP1 entries from Audi, Rebellion, Muscle Milk and Dyson. The LMP2 category will likely include Level 5 Racing, Conquest, Greaves and several other top teams from Europe. The GT class will be nothing short of spectacular, with Corvette, BMW, Ferrari, Porsche, Viper, Aston Martin and Lotus among the entries. In addition, an appearance by the radical DeltaWing is a possibility.
The ALMS era at Sebring began in spectacular fashion in 1999 with a thrilling last minute duel between BMW and the Dyson team. Since then, Audi has won an amazing 10 out of 13 races, with Peugeot claiming two victories and Porsche one win. Tom Kristensen has become a Sebring legend, winning six times overall (once for BMW and five times for Audi).
On the GT side, Corvette has been the dominant force, although Aston Martin, Ferrari, Saleen, BMW, Panoz and Porsche are among the manufacturers that have claimed victory. Perhaps the greatest memory from the ALMS era was the amazing last-turn of the last-lap finish in 2007 when the Risi Ferrari edged the Flying Lizard Porsche.
Gates open at Sebring on Wednesday, March 13th. Tickets are now on sale at special advance purchase rates until Feb. 15. For ticket questions please call 800-626-7223.
